Division Programs
Division Scholarship Become A Division Scholar
Division scholars work to foster an increased interest in the subfields of urban design and historic preservation. Up to two paid scholarships are awarded annually to undergraduate or graduate students interested in working with the Division in this pursuit.
The Division has robust urban design and historic preservation programs for emerging professionals and experienced practitioners who seek to increase their knowledge and contribute to the profession. To learn more, please follow the links or contact us.
Planning, Preservation, & Change
In 2023, the Division partnered with the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the National Alliance of Preservation Commissions to explore the intersection of planning, preservation, and change. The initiative features joint educational webinars, in-person conference panels, and an update of APA’s historic preservation policies and advocacy positions.
D-PRAT
The Division's D-PRAT (Design-Preservation Rapid Assistance Team) Program is our pro-bono effort that endeavors to help in-need communities with urban design or historic preservation assistance from our Division volunteers. We've already assisted communities in Colorado, Missouri, and Florida.
Student Planning & Design Competition
The Division is a proud co-sponsor of the annual APA Student Planning and Design Competition, culminating in the finalists' public presentation before a jury at the National Planning Conference. Our Division volunteers help select the competition site, write the competition prompt, and serve as the initial jury to select the finalist teams.
Mentorship
Our experienced members provide mentorship and coaching to emerging urban design and historic preservation professionals and students.
