Addressing Inequity, Injustice, and Racism in Our Professions

A Message From the Leadership of the Urban Design and Preservation Division

We are heartbroken by the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery, and call for an intensified effort to address inequity, injustice, and racism in our professions and practice.

As planners, urban designers, and preservationists,
we engage people in shaping our public realm and telling our history.
In doing that work, we will act in solidarity with others to:

Amplify the voices of people of color in the community and in our professions;

Acknowledge the perspectives and contributions of people of color;

Identify and avoid negative bias;

Discern and oppose inequitable policies, plans, and laws.

As of 2020, we have prepared an action plan for the Division and are working to implement our values into everything that we do. Please reach out to Leadership for more information.
